Smart Growth Award Presented to Councilman Flotteron

Islip, NY – At the 12th Annual Smart Growth Awards, hosted by Vision Long Island, Islip Town Councilman Steve Flotteron was presented with an award in the Revitalizing Communities category. Vision Long Island praised Councilman Flotteron specifically for his work in Central Islip, alongside the Central Islip Coalition of Good Neighbors.

“Central Islip has the potential to become an economic hub for Long Island,” said Councilman Flotteron. “With companies like Sysco investing in this community, and with an unparalleled parks project underway, this is clearly a community on the rise.”

Councilman Flotteron credits community groups for their participation in the planning and development process. As a result of concerted efforts by groups such as the Central Islip Civic Council and Central Islip Coalition of Good Neighbors, members of the community have been able to play a direct role in crafting the character and shape of their neighborhoods.

This has culminated in the current design and construction process for the Lowell Avenue multi-generational park in Central Islip, which will be a centerpiece for the community. Two multi-purpose ballfields are being constructed that will support local P.A.L. leagues, Pop Warner Football, soccer, and lacrosse. The fields will be part of a larger park area that is being designed with input from members of the community at every level.
