Town Announces Open Call for Central Islip Downtown Revitalization Project Proposals

Community Workshop Set for November 19th

November 9th, 2018 – Islip Town Supervisor Angie Carpenter today announced an open call for project proposals to the Central Islip Downtown Revitalization Initiative. Downtown Central Islip was selected as the winner of the New York State $10 million Downtown Revitalization Initiative (DRI) for the Long Island region in August. New York State’s Downtown Revitalization Initiative seeks to transform communities ripe for development into vibrant neighborhoods where the next generation of New Yorkers will want to live, work and raise a family.

Town Board Adopts 2019 Budget

November 8th, 2018 – Town of Islip Supervisor Angie Carpenter, along with the members of the Islip Town Board, unanimously adopted the Town’s 2019 annual operating budget and the 2019 capital budget plan at today’s public hearing. This budget is tax cap compliant.

Youth Bureau 2019 Coat Drive

November 2nd, 2018 – The Town of Islip Youth Bureau invites you to help keep our neighbors warm this winter by participating in the annual Town of Islip Coat Drive. Bring all new or gently worn coats of any size to the Town of Islip Youth Bureau located at 401 Main Street, Islip, from now through mid January, and help those in need during the coming cold season. Coats will be distributed to people in need right here in our community. Check your closets, and help spread the warmth!

Town Officials, Crews Prepare for Potential Flooding in Advance of Nor’Easter

Islip, NY – Based on the current weather predictions, Town officials have readied all of its storm and flood remediation equipment. Crews have kept a close eye on the Town’s low-lying areas, and have cleared all Town drain covers to ensure proper drainage. Department of Public Works has been working together with the Town’s Emergency Operations Center, and in the event of flooding conditions, DPW and the Parks Department will work in unison to remediate flooding.

According to NOAA, “a strong coastal storm will affect the region tonight through Saturday.  Confidence is increasing on widespread moderate coastal flood impacts for much of the region during the times of high tide Saturday morning into the afternoon. Locally, major flood impacts are possible along the most vulnerable Great South Bay and Jamaica Bay locations.”

Town to Host Opioid/Heroin Public Forum

October 25th, 2018 – Please be advised: the Permits Department will be temporarily suspending its evening hours for the Thanksgiving Holiday, and will be closing at 4:00pm on Wednesday, November 21th, 2018. Evening hours will resume on Wednesday, November 28th.
