Students' Idea Prompts Local Government Day

Both students stand side by side with the Supervisor and Islip Town Board, being honored at the February Town Board Meeting

Febraury 14th, 2019 – Islip Town Supervisor Angie Carpenter was joined by members of the Islip Town Board to recognize Destiny Eusebio and Keanu Waters at the February Town Board meeting. Keanu, President of the Student Senate at Brentwood High School, and Destiny, also an active member of the Brentwood H.S. student body, each wrote letters to Supervisor Carpenter suggesting a "Meet Your Elected Official Day."

<"I was impressed by their idea and the articulate and respectful tone of their letters, which were on the same topic coincidentally," said Supervisor Carpenter, who invited the students to a meeting with her at Town Hall. "As a result of their suggestion, we will be implementing a 'Meet Your Elected Official Day,' where students will have the opportunity to learn about local government and explore whether they'd like to pursue a career in public service," the Supervisor said.
