Oakdale Historical Society is hosting an exciting program called the “Living History” Cemetery Tour. This tour will take place at St. John’s Landmark Church on Montauk Highway in Oakdale on Saturday, October 20, 2018 from 1-4pm. (Raindate, Sunday, October 21). Admission is FREE, but donations are encouraged.

Nine selected graves will be explained by a period-dressed Historical Society member. This “guide” will provide information on the life and times of the deceased and may be represented by a wife, a husband, a child, a nurse or even the deceased themselves! The tour will commence with a brief explanation of 18th century burial customs inside the beautiful St. John’s Church by Town of Islip Historian, George Munkenbeck.

Following the tour, you will have the opportunity to “Adopt a Grave” or purchase flower posies for placing on the gravesites. You will also be free to explore the other gravestones, the churchyard or walk the labyrinth. Oakdale Historical Society will have information available to purchase and peruse on other historic sites and events. Please respect the cemetery as it is centuries old and the final resting place of many from the Oakdale area.
