Islip Supervisor, Local Officials Celebrate Solar Installation at Long Island Food Distributor

July 11th, 2018 – Town Supervisor Angie Carpenter visited J. Kings’ food distribution headquarters recently, for a Ribbon Cutting ceremony marking the installation of over two thousand solar panels at the Islip-based facility. Developed by EnterSolar, the new solar panels line nearly the total roof area of the complex, promising to reduce CO2 emissions by over 1 million pounds each year, the equivalent of almost 67,000 gallons of gasoline. The savings allows J. Kings to lower their operating costs, while also putting less stress on the local power grid.

July 10th, 2018 – Town Supervisor Angie Carpenter visited the Caesar Trunzo Senior Center in Brentwood recently, for the swearing-in of three new senior officers to the Brentwood Senior Club #1. Leading the ceremony with an oath of office, Supervisor Carpenter welcomed Martha Davidson, President; Lorraine Pace, Vice President; and Terri Botzenmayer, Corresponding Secretary, as the 2018 inductees to the club.

“Senior Club officers help link the senior population with Town government,” said Supervisor Carpenter. “Our volunteers play a vital role in ensuring that our senior centers function as strong assets within our community. It’s an honor to induct our new officers, and I look forward to working with them throughout the year,” added the Supervisor.


Town Welcomes AFC Urgent Care Center to West Islip

July 3rd, 2018– Town Supervisor Angie Carpenter and Town Councilman John C. Cochrane, Jr. recently celebrated the grand opening of AFC Urgent Care in West Islip. The West Islip location is AFC’s first in Suffolk County.

AFC Urgent Care is a one-stop healthcare facility open 7 days a week, designed, equipped and staffed to provide primary care, urgent care, and minor emergency treatment as an affordable and convenient alternative to visiting the ER. “We are delighted that AFC Urgent Care has chosen the Town of Islip for its first Suffolk County location and we welcome them to the West Islip community,” said Islip Supervisor Angie Carpenter.


Islip Town Officials, Lifeguards and Advocates, Urge Residents to Swim Safely During Holiday Weekend

June 29th, 2018 – Islip Town Supervisor Angie Carpenter stressed at a press conference today, the importance of swimming safely as we head into one of the busiest summer holiday weekends. The press conference at Byron Lake Pool in Oakdale, comes in response to two tragic drowning deaths that occurred just over a week ago in Nassau County, one involving a 10 year-old boy and the other a 30 year-old male. Both victims drowned while swimming in unguarded ocean waters.

June 28th, 2018 – Town Supervisor Angie Carpenter recently met with Christopher P. McGuire, Esq., and Joseph Tantillo, President of Nassau Suffolk Electrical & Mechanical, at a ribbon cutting ceremony celebrating the grand opening of McGuire, Peláez & Bennett, P.C. The law firm offers legal counsel with an expertise in criminal, traffic and matrimonial law, family court, personal injury, real estate closings, as well as landlord-tenant disputes.


Islip’s William Mannix Awarded National Recertification in Economic Development

June 22nd, 2018 – William (Bill) Mannix, Director of Economic Development has been awarded re-certification by the International Economic Development Council (IEDC) effective April, 2018. Mr. Mannix first achieved the Certified Economic Developer designation in 2006. CEcD recertification, required every three years, was awarded to Bill who met demanding requirements for continuing education and service to the profession. With over 26 years of economic development experience, Bill has been involved in over 470 development projects involving the Town of Islip Industrial Development Agency, the New York State Empire Zones Program and other local, state and federal economic development initiatives. Together, these projects have led to the creation or retention of more than 48,000 jobs and have facilitated more than $1.8 Billion in private investment for the Town of Islip.


Supervisor Celebrates Re-opening of Popular Bagel Shop

June 19th, 2018 – Town Supervisor Angie Carpenter and Town Councilman John C. Cochrane, Jr. recently visited Higbie Bagels in West Islip, for a ribbon cutting ceremony marking the grand re-opening of the popular neighborhood hotspot. Higbie Bagels closed in 2015 after a driver lost control of his vehicle, and crashed into the building, destroying part of the structure. Three years later, Higbie Bagels has once again opened its doors to its loyal and dedicated patrons, who have long awaited the return of their favorite bagel eatery. Town Supervisor Angie Carpenter presented Manger Frank Castillo with a Town Certificate, welcoming Higbie Bagels back to the Town.

Recruitment, Aerospace Top Islip CEO Summit Discussion

June 20th, 2018 – Islip Town Supervisor Angie Carpenter and Mitch Pally, CEO of the Long Island Builders Institute, and Suffolk County representative to the Board of the Metropolitan Transportation Authority, recently moderated the Town of Islip Annual CEO Summit at the Touro Law Center in Central Islip. More than 100 CEOs attended the event. Panelists were Robert DeLuca, Chairman, CEO Metal Crafters; Steve Covers, VP Rockewell Collins; John Kings, Founder, J. Kings Food Service Professionals and Joe Spinosa, VP East/West Industries.


Town Board Recognizes NYS Lacrosse Champions

June 20th, 2018 – The Islip Town Board paid special recognition to the Islip High School Boys Varsity Lacrosse team at the June Town Board meeting. The 2018 NYS Class C Champions won the coveted title in Rochester, NY earlier this month. Supervisor Angie Carpenter, members of the Islip Town Board, and outgoing Islip Schools Superintendent Susan Schnebel joined with Head Coach Keith Scheidel, Assistant Coaches Jeff Aiello, Tom Zummo and Terrence Foley. JV Coaches Joe DeBatt, Nick Apicella and Greg Ruccia were also recognized for their contributions. The Supervisor highlighted during the ceremony, team members Jeff Atlas, Teddy McLoughlin, Matt Troutman and George Magagnoli who are summer employees with the Town. Congratulations to all on the outstanding win.

June 15th, 2018 – Town Councilman John C. Cochrane, Jr. attended Commack Road Elementary School recently in observance of Flag Day 2018. The Councilman, along with Suffolk County Legislator Tom Cilmi, Commander of American Legion Rusy Bohm Post 411 Dominick DeCrescenzo, and members of the American Legion, gathered on the grounds of Commack Road Elementary along with students, in celebration of the 241st year our nation’s flag. Dressed in their best red, white and blue, students sang songs of national pride and learned the history of Old Glory, while winners of the school’s Flag Day essay contest were awarded.

Islip Councilman Recognizes Korean War Veteran

June 13th, 2018 – Town Councilman John C. Cochrane, Jr. recently attended the Affinity Skilled Living Facility in Oakdale, to meet with Korean War Marine Veteran Gerard Laurencot. Laurencot, a Brentwood native, was honorably discharged from the United States Marines on October 3rd, 1953, after serving on the combat line with the 1st Marine Division from 1952–1953. Joined by his daughter, Patricia Laurencot, and facility administrator, Stephanie Malone, Gerard Laurencot received a Citation of Recognition from the Councilman, who thanked the Korean War Veteran for his service to our nation.

Islip Supervisor Bids Farewell to 2nd Triple Crown Winner in Three Years

June 11th, 2018 – Islip Town Supervisor Angie Carpenter greeted Jimmy Barnes, assistant trainer to the 13th Triple Crown Winner Justify at Long Island MacArthur Airport this morning, as they boarded Air Horse One following a triumphant weekend at Belmont Park. Justify won the Belmont Stakes and the Triple Crown title Saturday, June 9th. Justify followed in his predecessor's hoof prints, Triple Crown Winner American Pharaoh, arriving and departing from LIMA. "We presented carnations to American Pharaoh in 2015 and to Justify in 2018, and both won the Triple Crown," said Supervisor Angie Carpenter. "We're looking forward to seeing who's next and to keeping the tradition going," she added.

June 6th, 2018 – Islip Town Supervisor Angie Carpenter welcomed Triple Crown hopeful Justify to Long Island MacArthur Airport today for the 150th running of the Belmont Stakes. The horse, along with other Belmont Stakes contenders, arrived in style aboard Air Horse One and touched down at the airport shortly after 12 pm.

“It’s a thrill for the Town of Islip to be part of what has the potential to be another historic event,” said Islip Town Supervisor Angie Carpenter. We had the opportunity to welcome the last Triple Crown winner, American Pharaoh, and we’re hopeful that arriving at our airport brings Justify the same good fortune,” she added.


Family, Friends Gather for Street Dedication

June 4th, 2018 – More than 100 people, made up of family, friends, neighbors, fellow firefighters and elected officials on the state, town and local levels, gathered for the dedication and naming of Capt. Vincent Ungaro Way in Holbrook Sunday. Captain Ungaro, a member of the FDNY and 9-11 first responder, died of Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia in October 2016. The event also coincided with the 90th birthday of Captain Ungaro's mother Susan.
